A small bar with big opinions about slow coffee & bright matcha.
We opened Matté on a quiet stretch of Old London Road in 2024, because Kingston deserved a bar that cared as much about the flat white as it does the ceremonial matcha. Two years in, the same faces come back every morning, and we know most of their orders before they reach the till.
The room is small — fifteen seats, a big front window. Everything we serve is made by hand, in front of you, by people who actually love it.
The pour-over programme is the heart of the bar: ten plus rotating single-origins from roasters we love, brewed to order on a V60. No jargon, no rush — just a conversation about what's in the cup.

Brewed slowly, by people who care.
Single-origin pour-overs, espresso from a rotating guest roaster, and a flat white that's worth the wait. We weigh, time and taste — and we'll happily talk you through any of it.
02 · the matcha
Ceremonial-grade. Whisked to order.
Stone-milled in Uji, shipped fresh, whisked with a chasen in front of you. Iced or hot, oat or whole. Same care we give the coffee.
03 · the room
A slow place on Old London Road.
Oak, linen, plants, plenty of natural light. A variety of cakes and pastries. The friendliest staff in Kingston Upon Thames.

Colombian pink bourbon, washed. V60 at 93°C, 1:16. Stone fruit, jasmine, a long honeyed finish. Bright & deeply flattering.

Stone-milled Uji matcha, whisked to chasen-fine foam, poured cold over ice and oat. Vegetal, sweet — the colour of a Surrey field in May.

The pour-over board rotates weekly. Washed Ethiopian one day, an anaerobic Guatemalan the next — brewed by hand on the V60, weighed and timed in front of you. Ask the barista. They'll talk you through every cup.
